Use Stockpress with your LLM (MCP server)

Connect your Stockpress workspace to an LLM (like Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or Perplexity), and find, preview, organize, and use your files, just by asking.

Written by Jessica

The Stockpress MCP server lets an LLM look inside your Stockpress workspace for you. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard, so it works with Claude, ChatGPT, and any other assistant that supports MCP connectors. Ask a question in plain English, like "Show me all of our logo files" or "How many photos do we have from the NYC Marathon?", and your AI assistant searches your files and Collections and answers right in the chat.

The LLM uses keywords, tags, and AI to find what you're looking for, so you don't need to learn anything new.

Before you start

You'll need:

  • A Stockpress account and access to the workspace.

  • An LLM that supports custom MCP connectors, such as Claude or ChatGPT. Note: Some apps only offer this on certain plans.

Good to know: Your assistant only sees what your Stockpress account can see. If a file or Collection is Restricted and you don't have access to it, your assistant won't have access either.

Connecting Stockpress to your LLM

Setting up in Claude

  1. Open your LLM's settings and find its connectors. Depending on the app, these may be called integrations, apps, or MCP servers.

  2. Choose to add a custom connector.

  3. Name it Stockpress and paste in the server URL: https://mcp.stockpress.co/mcp

  4. Save it, then click Connect.

  5. You will be prompted to sign in to Stockpress with your email address. Enter your email, then check your inbox for the code.

  6. Paste the code and follow the steps to select your workspace.

  7. Start a new chat and ask about your files or workspace!

Menu names differ from app to app. In Claude, for example, go to Settings > Connectors > Add custom connector. If you can't find the option, search your assistant's help docs for "custom connectors" or "MCP". You can disconnect Stockpress at any time from the same settings.

Setting up in ChatGPT

  1. Sign in at chatgpt.com.

  2. Open Plugins, click the + button, and select Add custom MCP server.

  3. Enter these details:

  4. Choose the sign-in option, then sign in to Stockpress and authorize the connection when prompted.

  5. Review the permissions and security warning, select Create as a plugin, and install the Stockpress plugin.

  6. Open a new chat, type @Stockpress, select the plugin, and ask your first question.

Once you're connected

You only need to set things up once. After that, there are two ways to use Stockpress:

  • Call it by name: start a new conversation, type @Stockpress (like in ChatGPT) and select it, then enter your request. This is the most reliable way to make sure your LLM uses Stockpress.

  • Just ask: in a conversation where Stockpress is turned on, ask something like "Find all the images tagged as product photography in my Stockpress workspace."

What you can do

Find files

Ask your assistant to find files by name, description, caption or tag, just like searching in your workspace. It can also sort results by newest or oldest, and tell you about each file: its size, type, who uploaded it and when.

Try asking: "Find all the files with Chris Berman in them."

Narrow things down with filters

Your assistant can see every filter available in your workspace, including tags, file types, people and custom fields. You don't need to pick them yourself. Just describe what you want, and it chooses the right filters.

Try asking: "Show me every PNG tagged Logo."

Look at files

Your assistant can open the files it finds, so it can see what's in an image, read a document, or describe a photo. This helps when a file name like IMG_2041.jpg doesn't tell you much.

Try asking: "Which of these photos have a scoreboard in them?"

Browse your Collections

Your assistant can list your Collections, including the Collections inside them, and tell you how many files each one holds.

Try asking: "What's in our Brand Collection?"

Filter your Collections

Just like files, Collections can be narrowed down, for example to find public or archived Collections, or the ones a certain person created.

Try asking: "Which Collections did Jessica create this year?"

Organize files into Collections

Your assistant can create new Collections and add files to them, so you can turn search results straight into an organized set. It can also create Smart Collections that automatically fill with every file matching your filters, like file type or owner, and stay up to date as new files are added.

Try asking: "Find all images tagged Cosmetics and create a Collection called Face Cosmetics Library containing those files."

Or try: "Create a Smart Collection of all JPG files owned by Jess."

Putting it together

The real power comes from combining these in one request. Our team has tested each of the following prompts, so they're a great place to start using terms related to your business and workspace:

  • Find the best images for a campaign: "Find the best images in my Stockpress workspace for a makeup campaign targeting women aged 30–45. Show me your top 5 recommendations, with previews, and explain why you've chosen them."

  • Pick the right brand asset: "Find all our Face logo variants in Stockpress. Recommend the best version for light backgrounds, dark backgrounds, social media profiles and campaign graphics, explaining your choices."

  • Build a brand asset inventory: "Find every Face logo in my Stockpress workspace. Group them by color and format, identify which versions are available, and produce a simple brand asset inventory with previews."

  • Find and organize untagged files: "How many files in my Stockpress workspace have no tags? Create a Collection called 'Untagged Files' and add them all to it."

  • Gather files outside Collections: "Find all files in my Stockpress workspace that aren't assigned to a Collection. Break them down by file type, show me what you've found, and create a Collection called 'Files Needing Organization' containing those files."

  • Check your library's health: "Audit my entire Stockpress workspace. Tell me how many files we have, break them down by file type, identify files without tags, and highlight the biggest opportunities to improve organization."

  • Spot content trends: "Analyze the files uploaded to my Stockpress workspace over the last 12 months. Show monthly upload volumes, the types of content we're creating most, and how our library is growing."

  • Improve your tagging: "Review the tagging of our Face makeup imagery. Identify files with missing or overly generic tags and recommend improvements that would make our content easier to find."

  • Search with several criteria: "Find all images in my Stockpress workspace tagged 'Lipstick' or 'Cosmetics'. Show me the matching files, their tags and file formats, and summarize what you've found."

What you get back depends on your LLM. Some apps can also show image previews or turn results into reports.

Good to know (FAQs)

Can my assistant change my files?

Your assistant can create Collections and add files to them when you ask, but it can't upload new files, edit existing ones or delete anything. Anything it makes for you, like an edited image or a report, stays in the chat until you download it and add it to Stockpress yourself.

Why can't my assistant find a file I know is there?

Check these first:

  • Access: the file may be restricted, and your account may not have access.

  • Archived files: Your assistant searches active files unless you ask it to include archived ones.

  • Missing details: It finds files by name, description, caption, and tags. If a file has none of these, try describing what's in it, or add tags in Stockpress.

  • People: Your assistant can find people by name only if they've been named in your workspace's People list.

Does my assistant change my workspace while searching?

No. Searching, filtering and opening files through your assistant doesn't move, rename or tag anything. The only changes it makes are creating Collections and adding files to them, and only when you ask it to.

Why can't I see image previews?

Your LLM can always open your images to search, compare, and describe them. Whether it can also show them to you in the chat depends on the app you use, your plan, and your organization's settings, not on Stockpress.

  • Claude: You can connect to Stockpress and search, filter, and organize your files on any plan, and Claude can see your images to describe and compare them. To show image previews, though, Claude needs to download them from Stockpress's file storage, which it can't reach by default. Follow the steps below to allow it.

  • ChatGPT and other LLMs: support for custom connectors and image previews varies by app and plan. Check your LLM's help docs.

Turn on image previews in Claude

Personal accounts (Free, Pro and Max):

  1. In Claude, open Settings and go to Capabilities.

  2. Make sure Code execution and file creation is turned on.

  3. Turn on Allow network egress and choose Package managers and specific domains.

  4. Add this domain: dq2vo5b29i1wz.cloudfront.net

  5. Start a new chat and ask to see your files again.

Team and Enterprise accounts: only an Owner can change these settings, and they apply to everyone in your organization. Ask your Owner to go to Organization settings > Capabilities, allow network egress to package managers and specific domains, and add dq2vo5b29i1wz.cloudfront.net.

This domain is where Stockpress stores your files. Adding it only lets Claude download files you already have access to; it doesn't open Claude up to the rest of the internet. Avoid choosing All domains unless you need it for other reasons.

If previews aren't available, ask your LLM for each file's name and Collection so you can open it in Stockpress instead.
